There are a number of temples in Cossipore-Baranagar area. Cossipore being the first ward of Kolkata Municipal Corporation has a number of temples dedicated to Goddess Kali, Lord Shiva and Krishna. A Kali temple on Ratan Babu Road which is pretty old houses Maa Anadamoyee.

The temple is red in colour and a flight of stairs will lead you to the temple. Inside the temple sanctum there is a throne in which Maa Anandamoyee is placed. I have been told by the priest that the throne (singhasan) in which the goddess is placed is on a panchamundi ashan. The temple was founded by Pulin Behari Roy, the zamindar of Narail. There are also a number of temples in the complex – two Shiva temples of different architecture and a temple dedicated to Radha Krishna. All the temples are old.

I have been informed by the priest that Ramakrishna Paramahansadev worshipped this idol. The temple was founded on the last day of Bengali month of Aashar (June-July). Anna bhog is served on that day to the goddess. Daily worship is performed here though special puja is held on each Amavasya (new moon) followed by bhog.
